The US upper intake level is 20 mg/day for adults; EFSA's independent estimate is stricter, around 9–13 mg/day. The dose that most of the human evidence uses

When boron researchers wanted to see what a realistic supplemental intake does to mineral metabolism, they used 3 mg/day — the dose in the metabolic-ward studies that found reduced urinary calcium and magnesium loss (Nielsen 1987; Hunt 1997). It's also the dose most retail products settle on, which is a reasonable default if you want to match the dose with the most human data behind it. The hormone-focused trials used higher, more variable doses: Naghii 2011 used 10 mg/day for one week; the null trial in trained bodybuilders, Ferrando & Green 1993, used a lower 2.5 mg/day over seven weeks. Calcium fructoborate trials are dosed by compound weight rather than elemental boron — Pietrzkowski 2014 used 110 mg of CFB twice daily, and the elemental boron that represents usually isn't stated on the label.
