Why we pick it It is the only plain MK-7 we found on a public testing list: USP checks that it holds what the label says and screens it for harmful levels of contaminants such as heavy metals. One softgel gives 100 mcg, a full dose by our count. MK-7 is the form used in most recent K2 trials outside Japan.

What you give up Price. At $0.70 a day it costs more than 11 times the cheapest K2 we found, and more than any other plain MK-7 capsule or softgel we score. You pay for the testing list. If that does not matter to you, our lowest-price pick is $0.062 a day.

One more thing Nature Made’s store marks this softgel discontinued but still sells it, and Amazon had it in stock on October 5, 2026. If it runs out, this page will change.

Where we disagree with the big guides

Neither guide we read names a product on a public testing list as its top pick. We do, and it costs more.

BestRatedDocs names Sports Research Vitamin K2 100 mcg its best overall and Doctor’s Best (MenaQ7) its runner-up. It says MenaQ7 “is the specific extract used in the Knapen three-year bone trial.” We agree on the ingredient: that trial gave MenaQ7, 180 mcg a day. Both picks are 100 mcg, a full dose by our count but about half the trial’s. Neither is on a testing list we search. Sports Research also sells a 180 mcg softgel (see above).

FitnessVolt names InnovixLabs Full Spectrum Vitamin K2 its best overall, for “full-spectrum support.” It is 100 mcg of MK-7 plus 500 mcg of MK-4. The MK-4 bone trials in Japan used 45 mg (45,000 mcg) a day, and in a small study, 420 mcg of MK-4 did not show up in the blood at all (Sato 2012; MK-7 vs MK-4). The label says it is third-party tested, but we found it on no public list. We read both guides on October 5, 2026.

USP’s own site blocks our automated reads, so we have no screenshot of its list; Nature Made’s K2 softgel was on it in our copy of September 22, 2026, and Nature Made’s page still says “USP Verified.” We searched NSF by every brand and maker in this guide. Five marks: does a serving give at least 90 mcg of MK-7, the lowest daily dose a trial found a benefit with (MK-7 trials used 10 to 720 mcg a day, so 90 mcg is our line, not an official one); is the product on a public testing list (a brand’s own testing claim, with no listing, earns half the 3 points); what a full dose a day costs in whole pills against the cheapest in its group; does the label state the amounts; and any FDA recall naming the brand. Carlson Vitamin K2 MK-7 90 mcg: Amazon shows it as not yet in stock (October 5, 2026), so we cannot link it or score it.
NOW Vitamin K-2 MK-4 100 mcg: MK-4 only. MK-4 is studied in milligrams, so we do not score it on the MK-7 scale.
Thorne Vitamin K2 Liquid: MK-4 only, 15 mg (15,000 mcg) a serving, on NSF/ANSI 173. A drug-sized MK-4 dose, not an MK-7 product.

What K2 does, and what to watch for

The results are mixed. In 244 healthy women after menopause, 180 mcg of MK-7 a day for 3 years slowed bone loss at the spine and hip neck, but not across the whole hip (Knapen 2013). In a 1-year trial in China, 90 mcg of K2 a day slowed bone loss at the hip neck in women after menopause but not in men (Zhang 2020). A 3-year trial of 375 mcg a day in women with low bone density found no effect on bone density or bone structure (Rønn 2021). In 2026, 360 mcg a day for 2 years slowed new calcium build-up in the heart arteries of people with heart disease (Vossen 2026); several other artery trials found no effect, and none shows K2 removes calcium already there. A US Pharmacopeia safety review found no serious risk from MK-7 supplements (Marles 2017), and no upper limit is set for vitamin K. The exception is warfarin and similar drugs (above). Our dosage guide covers how much to take.
