The most useful safety reference for taurine isn't a single trial, it's a formal risk assessment that pooled the available human and animal evidence to establish how much is safe. That review concluded the evidence for an absence of adverse effects is strong at supplemental intakes up to 3,000 mg (3 g) per day (Shao 2008, PMID: 18325648).
