Transparent Labs vs Optimum Nutrition Whey (2026): Compared

By Erin Rose · Updated · Methodology

The verdict

Informed Choice lists both product lines. Transparent Labs French Vanilla is also NSF Certified for Sport, in the same 30-serving pack we price. NSF Certified for Sport lists Gold Standard Double Rich Chocolate in the 10 lb tub only; the 5 lb tub we price is not on that list. So the choice is about what is in the tub and what you pay. Transparent Labs is all whey isolate, 28 g of protein per scoop, sweetened with stevia, and the brand says you can match your lot number to a lab report. Gold Standard is a whey blend with 24 g per scoop and costs less: Gold Standard is 25% cheaper per 25 g of protein ($1.45 vs $1.93). Pay for Transparent Labs if you want isolate, stevia and lot reports; buy Gold Standard if cost per gram matters most.

Protein, scoop size, calories, fat, carbs, sugars and sweeteners are from each brand’s Nutrition Facts panel for the flavor priced. The tubs are different sizes; cost per 25 g of protein is the fair comparison. Informed Choice lists product lines, not flavors or pack sizes. NSF lists products by flavor and pack, and we count an NSF listing only when it covers the pack we link.

The real difference: isolate and lot reports vs cost

Informed Choice lists both product lines, so neither is the "untested" option. The difference is what you get per scoop and what you pay for it. Transparent Labs uses only whey isolate, which is filtered further than concentrate, so a larger share of each scoop is protein (82% vs 77%). It is sweetened with stevia, and the brand says you can look up the lab report for the lot you bought. Gold Standard is a blend that includes whey concentrate and costs 25% less per gram of protein at the Amazon prices we recorded on September 30, 2026.

NSF listings are per flavor and pack. NSF Certified for Sport lists Transparent Labs’ whey isolate in many flavors, including the 30-serving French Vanilla pack priced here. It lists Gold Standard 100% Whey in only Double Rich Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream, both in the 10 lb tub only. If you need an NSF-listed product, check the flavor and size before you order; our third-party tested protein list shows every listed powder we found.

Who each one is for

Choose Transparent Labs if you want an all-isolate powder, a stevia-sweetened label, or a lab report you can match to your tub.

Choose Gold Standard if you want the lower cost per gram of protein and are fine with a whey blend. If you need NSF Certified for Sport, NSF lists only the 10 lb Double Rich Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream tubs, not the 5 lb tub linked here.
