The honest answer
There's no consensus dose. The Cs-4 material in the exercise trials was about 1–3 g/day (Chen 2010) and the C. militaris blends were ~4 g/day (Hirsch 2017) — but species, form, and standardization vary so wildly that a milligram number on its own means little. The real question isn't how many milligrams; it's what form and how much beta-glucan. And you usually can't answer that, because a beta-glucan % is almost never printed — only 2 of 11 products we track disclose one.
The key thing most people get wrong: the dose isn't milligrams
Cordyceps trials dosed grams of a specific material — Cs-4 (a cultivated C. sinensis mycelial strain) at ~1–3 g/day, or a C. militaris blend at ~4 g/day. But "grams of powder" isn't a dose of the active, because the powders aren't the same thing. Most US cordyceps is mycelium-on-grain, dried onto a rice or oat substrate, so a large share of the mass is grain starch — roughly 35–65% by independent industry lab analysis, versus under 5% in a true fruiting body (Nammex/Chilton via the peer-reviewed McCleary method). So a "2,000 mg" mycelium serving can carry less beta-glucan — the actual active — than a smaller fruiting-body extract. Match the milligrams to the form, and the form to a disclosed beta-glucan %; that's the whole moat.
