Align vs Schiff Digestive Advantage (2026): Strains Compared
Informational comparison of label data, cost, and published clinical evidence — not medical advice. Talk to your doctor before choosing a probiotic for a specific condition. Prices are per-serving figures as of July 2026; strain and CFU data are each brand's published label.
These are different strains, not different strengths. Align (1 billion CFU B. infantis 35624) has the larger published trial (n=362).
Schiff Digestive Advantage (2 billion CFU B. coagulans BC30, $0.34/day) has a smaller published trial (n=44). Neither carries third-party certification.

Prices are Amazon buy-box figures divided into a daily cost; they move. Strain and serving data are each brand's published label.
The real difference: different strains, not "stronger"
It's tempting to read 2 billion CFU as double the strength of 1 billion. That's not how strain-specific evidence works. Align's label dose is 1 billion CFU. In its trial, a higher 10 billion CFU dose of the same strain did not measure better results.
Schiff's 2 billion CFU of B. coagulans BC30 is a different organism entirely. It was studied in a smaller trial (n=44).
So the real question isn't which product has more CFU. CFU counts do not compare across strains. Align's trial had a much larger study population.
Schiff's trial was smaller. Its strain was also studied in a separate flu-vaccine trial.
Who each one is for
Choose Align if you want the strain with the larger published trial (n=362). Ask your clinician whether a probiotic makes sense for you.
Choose Schiff Digestive Advantage if you want a shelf-stable, spore-forming strain at a lower cost per day.
Choose neither if you are unsure a probiotic fits your needs. See the full evidence rundown and talk to your clinician before spending on either.

Frequently asked questions
How do the Align and Schiff Digestive Advantage trials differ?
Align's published trial had 362 participants. Schiff's published trial had 44 participants. The two used different strains and different measures. Talk to your clinician about whether a probiotic fits you; Align has the larger trial behind it.
Why does Align contain less CFU than Schiff Digestive Advantage?
Because 1 billion CFU is Align's label dose. Its own trial also tested a 10 billion CFU dose of B. infantis 35624, and it did not measure better results. CFU counts also don't compare across different strains — Schiff's 2 billion CFU of B. coagulans BC30 is a different organism entirely, not a stronger version of the same one.
Has the Schiff strain been studied for anything else?
B. coagulans BC30 (the strain in Schiff Digestive Advantage) was studied in a separate small trial on response to flu vaccination. We did not find a similar study for Align's strain.
Which is cheaper, and does the price gap matter?
Schiff Digestive Advantage costs 0.34/day versus Align's 0.96/day — roughly a third the price. Most of that gap comes from Schiff's 80-serving container against Align's 28. Neither product carries third-party certification, so the price difference doesn't reflect a verification gap.
