Why we pick it IFOS checks each lot for EPA and DHA, freshness and contaminants, and posts the report. No tested triglyceride oil here costs less.
What you give up The label serving is two large softgels. For one softgel a day, see Sports Research below.
Which triglyceride fish oil is right for you?
Every oil here names the triglyceride form on its label or website. Compare the EPA and DHA, not the big “fish oil” number on the front. How much to take: the dosage guide.
Want just one softgel a day?
Sports Research Triple Strength is one softgel a day, with 950 mg of EPA and DHA. The label says “TG as rTG.” IFOS tests it, and it costs $0.34 per 1,000 mg.

NOW Tri-3D Omega costs $0.28 per 1,000 mg, less than our pick, but we did not find it on a testing list. Each softgel also has vitamin D3 (1,000 IU on the label NOW filed with NIH), so count it if you take a vitamin D pill.

Every triglyceride fish oil we checked, ranked
We read each label or brand page for the form, searched six testing lists for each oil, and priced each one per 1,000 mg of EPA and DHA on Amazon. Our pick first, then the other tested oils, then the 2 we did not find on a list, each from cheapest.

Which triglyceride fish oils are third-party tested?
6 of 8. IFOS lists Viva Naturals Triple Strength, Sports Research Triple Strength, Carlson The Very Finest Fish Oil (liquid), OmegaVia Ultra Concentrated and Puori O3, each with a lab report for every lot it tests. NSF Certified for Sport lists Momentous for every lot. We did not find Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega or NOW Tri-3D Omega on IFOS, NSF Certified for Sport, Informed Choice, NSF/ANSI 173, Informed Sport or USP Verified (the last three from our saved copies, August 2026).
How can you tell if a fish oil is triglyceride form?
Look on the Supplement Facts panel for “triglyceride,” “TG” or “rTG.” Most labels don’t say. Of 620 fish oil labels in the NIH label database that list an omega-3 amount, only 28 name the triglyceride form and 49 name ethyl ester (we read them September 23, 2026). If the label is silent, check the brand’s website. Barlean’s names the form on neither, so it is not here. Carlson Elite Gems is not here either: the label Carlson filed with NIH says ethyl ester.
Is triglyceride better than ethyl ester?
A little. Across 14 trials, triglyceride oils raised the omega-3 index about 1 point more at the same dose, and taking ethyl ester with a meal that has fat narrows the gap (the studies). It does not have to cost more: our pick is among the cheapest oils here per 1,000 mg.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between TG and rTG fish oil?
TG means triglyceride, the form omega-3 takes in fish. rTG is fish oil that was concentrated and then turned back into triglyceride, so one softgel can hold more EPA and DHA. Of the 8 oils here, Viva, Nordic Naturals and OmegaVia say rTG on the label or listing; Sports Research says “TG as rTG.”
Is Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega triglyceride form?
Yes. Its label says the omega-3s are in triglyceride form (rTG). We did not find it on IFOS or NSF Certified for Sport; Nordic posts its own lot reports. It costs $0.62 per 1,000 mg, about 2.1 times our pick.
