What does each list check?

ProgramWhat it tells you
USP VerifiedChecks that the bottle holds the ingredients on the label in the stated amounts, and that heavy metals such as lead stay under set limits.
NSF/ANSI 173Checks that what the label says is in the bottle, and that lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium stay under set limits. It does not screen for banned substances.
NSF Certified for SportChecks the label and tests each certified lot for banned substances. It is the program athletes use.

What ConsumerLab tested in 2024

ConsumerLab tested 20 CoQ10 and ubiquinol products in 2024 and approved four: Garden of Life Vitamin Code Gummies CoQ10, GNC CoQ-10 200 mg, Life Extension Super Ubiquinol CoQ10 100 mg and Spring Valley CoQ10 200 mg.

The other 16 it chose to test: Designs for Health CoQnol 200, Doctor’s Best High Absorption CoQ10 With BioPerine, Healthy Origins Vegan Ubiquinol, Jarrow Formulas QH-absorb + PQQ, Kirkland Signature CoQ10 300 mg, Mary Ruth’s CoQ10 Gummies, Member’s Mark CoQ10 200 mg, Nature Made CoQ10 100 mg with Black Pepper Extract, ProCaps Laboratories Andrew Lessman Coenzyme Q-10 100 mg, Puritan’s Pride Q-Sorb Co Q-10 200 mg, Qunol Mega CoQ10 Ubiquinol 100 mg, Qunol Ultra CoQ10 100 mg, Swanson CoQ10, Swanson Ubiquinol, Synergy Ubiquinol CoQ10 100 mg and Webber Naturals Ubiquinol 100 mg. A brand’s own lab report

California Gold Nutrition posts a lab report for its CoQ10 100 mg on iHerb. It is for lot B23016, dated April 10, 2023, and was run by Health Level One. It found 110 mg of CoQ10 a softgel (label: 100 mg) and no E. coli, Salmonella or Staph aureus. Lead was 0.083 mcg a softgel. A report like this covers one lot, not every bottle.

How to check your own bottle

  1. Look for the USP Verified mark or the NSF mark on the bottle.
  2. Search NSF’s list or USP’s list for the exact product name and strength. Nature Made has several CoQ10 strengths, and only some are listed.
  3. Read the Supplement Facts for CoQ10 in mg per serving, and the serving size. Some lists count 2 or 3 softgels as one serving, so match the serving size on your label to the one on the list.
  4. Choose the form you want. See ubiquinol vs ubiquinone and how much to take in the dosage guide.

Questions

Which CoQ10 supplements are third-party tested?

Nature Made CoQ10 200 mg, Kirkland Signature CoQ10 300 mg, Momentous Ubiquinol CoQ10 100 mg, Thorne CoQ10 100 mg, Thorne Ubiquinol 100 mg and Nordic Naturals CoQ10 Ubiquinol Sport 100 mg are each on a public list: USP Verified, NSF/ANSI 173 or NSF Certified for Sport. The lists check the label amount and set limits for contaminants. They do not print a result for each bottle.

Is Nature Made CoQ10 USP Verified?

Yes. USP lists Nature Made CoQ10 in 100 mg, 200 mg and 400 mg softgels and a 100 mg softgel with black pepper extract. The one we link is the 200 mg softgel, 80 count. USP’s list shows the product name, not the pack size. USP list read September 22, 2026.

Is Doctor’s Best CoQ10 third-party tested?

Doctor’s Best says its 200 mg capsule with BioPerine is USP Verified. We did not find it on USP’s list. The 100 mg softgel has no testing claim on its label. ConsumerLab bought and tested Doctor’s Best High Absorption CoQ10 With BioPerine for its 2024 review.

Is California Gold Nutrition CoQ10 third-party tested?

California Gold Nutrition posts a lab report for one lot of its CoQ10 100 mg (lot B23016, April 10, 2023), but the product is not on a USP or NSF list.

Which is better tested, ubiquinol or ubiquinone?

Both forms are on the lists. Thorne CoQ10 and Nature Made are ubiquinone; Thorne Ubiquinol, Momentous and Nordic Naturals are ubiquinol. A listing says nothing about which form absorbs better. See ubiquinol vs ubiquinone.
