The Best Molecular Hydrogen Tablets of 2026
The best hydrogen water tablet is H2Tab: up to 5.7 mg of hydrogen per tablet, as much as any label we checked, for $0.93 a glass on Amazon. It is also the only one on NSF Certified for Sport. We compared 3 tablets listed by a hydrogen testing lab. Drop one in a 16 oz glass of water and drink it as soon as it stops fizzing.

Why we pick it It is the only hydrogen tablet on NSF Certified for Sport, which tests each lot for drugs banned in sport. Its label promises about as much hydrogen as 80 mg of magnesium can make, and it is the best seller of the three on Amazon.
What you give up A bottle is 30 tablets, so it runs out sooner than the 60 and 90 count bottles. Sports Research gets you more hydrogen for each dollar.
What to look for in a hydrogen tablet
Every tablet here works the same way. Magnesium in the tablet reacts with water and food acids, and the reaction gives off hydrogen gas that dissolves in the glass. Three things on the label tell you how much you get.
- Hydrogen in mg. A ppm (parts per million) number means little without the water amount: the same tablet reads higher in a small glass. Multiply the ppm by the liters on the label to get mg. For example, 12 ppm in 500 ml is 6 mg.
- About 80 mg of magnesium. The magnesium makes the hydrogen, and 80 mg can make at most about 6.6 mg (LeBaron 2019). All three tablets here have 80 mg, so none claims more than it can make.
- A listing with a hydrogen lab. H2 Analytics tests hydrogen products to the International Hydrogen Standards Association (IHSA) standard and keeps a public lookup. All three tablets here are on it.

Most hydrogen for the money: Sports Research
At $0.67 a glass for about 5.7 mg of hydrogen (12 ppm in about 16 oz), it costs the least for each mg of hydrogen of the three.

Lowest cost per glass: Dr. Mercola H2
It is the cheapest glass here at $0.56, and a bottle of 90 lasts three months at one a day. The trade-off is less hydrogen: its label says 8 ppm in 16 oz (480 ml), about 3.8 mg, which is roughly 60% of what our pick makes.

How to use hydrogen tablets
Drop one tablet in 16 to 17 oz (about 500 ml) of cold or room-temperature water. Wait 1 to 2 minutes for it to dissolve, then drink it right away. Hydrogen leaves the water fast: in a 2019 lab test of a hydrogen tablet in 500 ml, the level was about 10 ppm right after it dissolved and fell to 1.6 ppm within 30 minutes (LeBaron 2019).
Count the magnesium. NIH sets the upper limit for magnesium from supplements at 350 mg a day for adults, and two tablets a day is 160 mg. If you also take a magnesium pill, add the two together. Too much magnesium from supplements can cause loose stools. Magnesium side effects and the 350 mg limit.
What the research says about hydrogen water
The studies are small and early. A 2024 review of 25 studies found the results encouraging, but said larger and better trials are needed (Dhillon 2024). In the 7 trials one 2023 review pooled, the water mostly had about 5 to 15 ppm, and people drank about 1 liter a day in 3 servings (Todorovic 2023). In a 2019 study of 19 healthy adults who took hydrogen tablets, heart rate during moderate exercise was a few beats lower than on placebo; top performance did not change (LeBaron 2019).
Common questions about hydrogen tablets
Do hydrogen water tablets work?
They do make real hydrogen water, as the lab test in how to use them shows. Whether drinking it helps your health is less clear; see what the research says.
How many hydrogen tablets a day?
One or two is what most labels suggest. Two tablets, each in a 16 oz glass, make about a liter of hydrogen water a day.
Are hydrogen tablets better than a hydrogen water bottle?
They are cheaper to start and easy to carry. A bottle costs more up front but no money per glass after that. This page covers tablets; for bottles, see the best hydrogen water bottle. Whichever you use, drink the water right away.
Is hydrogen water safe?
For healthy adults it appears to be. The FDA had no questions about a company’s notice that hydrogen gas is safe to add to drinking water (GRN 520), and the small trials report it was well tolerated. The magnesium is the part to watch (how to count it). If you have kidney disease, ask your doctor before taking extra magnesium.
How we checked these tablets
We started from the hydrogen tablets Amazon sells most and the ones other guides name most. We kept tablets that the brand or its own seller sells on Amazon and that have a certificate in the H2 Analytics lookup, checked October 18, 2026. We looked up 10 brands that sell hydrogen tablets; 6 have an active tablet listing, and these 3 are the ones with a clear label sold on Amazon by the brand or its seller today. For each, we read the hydrogen claim and the water amount on the brand’s site or the label photo, and the magnesium on the Supplement Facts panel. We checked NSF Certified for Sport, Informed Sport and Informed Choice for each brand. H2 Analytics marks all three listings active, and they run into 2027 to 2029. We recheck all three listings each month. Prices are the Amazon price of the bottle we link, updated each day. More on our method.
