A day = the whole capsules that reach 1,000 mg or more. Costs use each brand’s list price, checked October 15, 2026 to November 3, 2026, so they can differ from the Amazon price on the button. Sports Research has no list price we could read, so its cost uses the Amazon price.
Also on a testing list (3)
NSF/ANSI 173 also lists these berberine products.
- Theralogix Berberine (NSF/ANSI 173). Amazon sells it only in a bundle with Ovasitol, so there is no single bottle to compare.
- Thorne Berberine 200 mg (NSF/ANSI 173). A lower-dose Thorne bottle. The 500 mg Thorne in the table above is the one we compare.
- Aurora Nutrascience, Genex, Toplux and We Like Vitamins (NSF/ANSI 173). Each has a berberine product on NSF’s list as of August 25, 2026.
What testing has found in berberine
ConsumerLab’s berberine page says that in October 2025, 7 out of 13 brands tested had little to no berberine at all. In December 2023 it said that recent tests of 33 berberine supplements bought on Amazon and Walmart.com showed that many contained less than half the listed amount.
NSF/ANSI 173 checks that the label amount is in the bottle, and sets limits for lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium. The lists do not print a number for each product. A listing means the product met the program’s limits.

What does each program check?
| Program | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| NSF/ANSI 173 | Checks that what the label says is in the bottle, and that lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium stay under set limits. It does not screen for banned substances. |
| NSF Certified for Sport | Checks the label and tests each certified lot for banned substances. It is the program athletes use. |
How to check your own bottle
- Look for the NSF mark on the bottle. “Third-party tested” in words is the brand’s claim, not a listing.
- Search NSF’s list for the exact product name and the brand.
- Read the Supplement Facts for berberine in mg a capsule. On phytosome products the weight includes the fat carrier, so the berberine is less than the label weight.
- Aim for 1,000 to 1,500 mg a day in total, which is the range many trials used. See the dosage guide.

Questions
Which berberine supplements are third-party tested?
Toniiq Berberine 500 mg, Thorne Berberine, Momentous Berberine and Codeage Berberine Phytosome+ are each on NSF’s public list. Momentous Berberine is also on NSF Certified for Sport. NSF lists Theralogix Berberine too, but we found no Amazon listing for it by itself.
Is Thorne berberine NSF certified?
Yes. NSF lists Thorne Berberine under NSF/ANSI 173, which checks the label and sets contaminant limits. It is not on NSF Certified for Sport.
Is Toniiq berberine NSF certified?
Yes. NSF lists two Toniiq products, Berberine and Berberine 1500, each at 3 capsules a day. We link the 500 mg capsule bottle, which is the first of the two.
Is Momentous Berberine worth the price?
It is the only one here on both NSF lists, at $1.67 a day against $0.67 for Toniiq Berberine 500 mg.
Does “third-party tested” on the label mean it is on a list?
No. NutriFlair Berberine + Ceylon Cinnamon, Nutricost Berberine 1200, Integrative Therapeutics Berberine, Double Wood Berberine HCl and Sports Research Berberine say it on the label or their page. Not one is on a public list.
